Caffeine

Usually people ask something about tools they need to use for streaming. Most newcomers think that they should never care about streaming platform because they will either pick Twitch or Youtube. And, like with the streaming soft, ‘the most popular’ does not equal ‘the best’. And that’s why Caffeine was created. To become the best streaming platform.

What is Caffeine?

As it was mentioned before, Caffeine is broadcasting platform for gaming, entertainment, and the creative arts. Built from scratch, it’s simple, powerful, and fun to use. What differs it from competitors is that it is really simple to set up. While you have to dig deeper into the Twitch settings just to have your streaming key, Caffeine will do all the hard job for you. You’ll thank it later.

Simplicity is actually the core of what Caffeine’s creators do: the website design is simple yet beautiful, their tools are simple to use, and the stream is easy to launch.
Sometimes it even goes beyond measure – the stream design is sharp and almost spartan. Yes, it contains only useful stuff, but sometimes it may look as if the creators had lost something in the process.

Features

Functionality

Caffeine is still in its infancy. It began offering the essentials only and still lacks the polish of the more established Twitch. The platform makes it easy to set up a livestream. All users need is a webcam and a microphone. To begin broadcasting, users merely need to press the “Start broadcasting” link.

Things get more complicated if a user wants to stream while playing a game, however. In order to do so, users must download the Caffeine app. Then, the streamer only has the option to play one of the supported games. While these factors seem limiting, Caffeine does regularly add new games. Right now it supports over 560 games.

Real time

If you watched some Twitch or Youtubemstreams, you might have noticed that they have a delay. Sometimes it is small, sometimes it can be around ten minutes. But in Caffeine, the delay is only about a second. Is it good or bad – that’s for you to decide. On one hand, your viewers will be at the same wave with you, but on the other hand, you won’t be protected from the streamsniping that can ruin your competitive game.

No partner program required

It is actually quite hard to make money through Twitch, if we don’t talk about the donations. But this was fixed in Caffeine. You can monetize your content through the use of digital items and without the need of a partnership program. As viewers purchase digital items to participate in and enhance broadcasts, Caffeine will award broadcasters with credits based on this activity. But you will need to apply to cash out your credits for real money.

Single stream friendly

This feature will help a lot if you do not have second monitor screen. Personally, when I stream any game, I have to run the stream on my phone to read the chat, because infinite ‘alt+tab’ing certainly causes discomfort. But with the help of Caffeine reactions will appear in your game, so you don’t need a second screen for chat windows. Reactions are filtered to show the best comments for you. Now you can play and chat without missing anything.

Social aspect

No one can argue that most of Twitch streams remain unwatched. Actually, if Twitch streamer will not mark his stream by the name of the game he is currently playing, you will never find this stream without the direct link to it. And if you mark the wrong game, you can sometimes even get banned. But not in Caffeine.
Caffeine instantly shares what you broadcast with your followers. You can also share your broadcast on Twitter and Facebook.

Caffeine’s simplicity also happens to be its biggest drawback. Unlike Twitch, finding streamers on Caffeine.tv can be challenging. Without categories and only a basic search function, Caffeine’s features limit users in a way.

The level of knowledge required

Even if you know nothing about software and hardware, you’ll deal with the Caffeine streaming. Just download Caffeine, sign in, and you’re done. No need to mess with bit rates, IP addresses, stream keys or any of that nonsense. You are ready to broadcast. To make your life even more easy if you use OBS, you can download the Caffeine supported version to broadcast — no stream key required!

Who Are Caffeine.Tv’s Competitors?

It’s no question that Caffeine considers Twitch its main competitor as both offer livestreaming with a special attention to gamers. On top of that, the market for livestream gaming is surprisingly crowded. Although Twitch rules the roost, other streaming platforms include HitBox, Beam, Bigo Live, YouTube Gaming, Afreeca, Disco Melee, and Gosu Gamers.

Caffeine brings something new to the table though – it markets itself as offering social streaming with an emphasis on gaming, entertainment, and creative arts broadcasting. If this is the case, then it must have an eye on the big livestreaming players, including Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Instagram Live Video, and Periscope Watch Live.

7 Total Score
Perfect for beginners, less suitable for serious streamers

Caffeine.tv is still in beta, and the logo on the site refers to it being in pre-release. The young streaming service is ideal for beginner streamers, having some technical requirements but not expecting its users to download any files first. This facilitates sharing live content and provides an excellent option for users who want to broadcast to a few real-world friends. Caffeine is less suitable for streamers who want to broadcast their activities to the world. The platform lacks categories and has only limited search capabilities. Serious users still have to market themselves on another platform, promoting their Caffeine username to potential viewers. If Caffeine remains game-focused, it will likely struggle to reach Twitch’s popularity – the top-level streamers there have little incentive to move their audience, as Caffeine does not yet offer a significant selling point over Twitch for gamers.

PROS
  • Simplicity of use and design
  • Lags never occur
  • Less requirement needed
CONS
  • Can mostly suit only for gaming streams
